Character Education in New Zealand Schools

Gael McDonald is Dean of the Faculty of Business and Professor of Business Ethics at UNITEC Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand. Previously, she was an Associate Professor and member of the Graduate School of Management of East Asia Open Institute, Hong Kong. Recently, she has been active in establishing UNITEC.s New Zealand Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Gael McDonald, a gifted public speaker, has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Macau, United States and Canada. She has published extensively in professional and trade journals and understands the connection between effective character education and business and professional ethics.

In October 2004 Dr. McDonald supervised a study into the effectiveness of character education in New Zealand schools. Dr. McDonald spoke of the results of that study, Character Education in New Zealand Schools, at a symposium held in Dunedin in October 2005. During 2007 Dr.McDonald supervised a follow-up study on character education in New Zealand Schools. Dr. McDonald presented the results of this study, Character Education in New Zealand Schools - A Follow-up Study, at a symposium held in Wellington in November 2007.
